Matcha is high-grade powdered green tea containing 137 times more antioxidants than brewed green tea. Both come from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis), but with matcha, the entire leaf is consumed. Matcha stands out due to its unique production process. Before harvest, the Camellia sinensis tea shrubs are sheltered from direct sunlight for several days. This meticulous shading enhances the chlorophyll levels, resulting in vibrant green leaves bursting with nutrients and natural sweetness.

Once plucked, these leaves undergo steaming and air drying before being finely ground into a delicate powder using traditional stone grinding methods. This labor-intensive process allows Matcha to be consumed as the entire tea leaf, unlocking over 10 times the health benefits found in traditional steeped green tea.

Our Matcha is designated as 'ceremonial grade'. Ceremonial grade matcha can only be made in Japan, from the youngest leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant. Our tea is sourced exclusively from Japan, particularly from small organic farms from the volcanic mineral-rich region of Kagoshima.

Matcha holds a special place in Japanese culture, and became an important part of Japanese Tea Ceremonies as it represented harmony, respect and tranquility. Matcha was also originally used during meditation to sharpen the mind and bring clarity, something that it still brings many in 2024.
